Ever wondered what is aWordPressslug? In this article, you’ll learn the definition of a WordPress slug and how to set it in WordPress. We will also provide some tips for setting up user-friendly and SEO optimized slugs. Let’s get started.
What is a WordPress Slug?
A WordPress slug is a text which comes after your domain name as a part of your permalink that is leading to your content.
If you add a new post, WordPress automatically generates the slug based on your permalinks settings. You can go toSettings -> Permalinksand change how slugs are generated.
Although WordPress automatically sets the slug, it is not always recommended to leave it like that. The default slug may not be friendly for both search engines and humans.
How to set slugs in WordPress
Before setting your slug, you have to know the two basic rules:
Change spaces with dashes;
Only lowercase letters are allowed.
WordPress will automatically correct these rules for you. But, it will be better if you understand this before proceeding further.
WordPress Post Slug
You can set your post’s slug while writing or editing your post. Go below your post Title box, and find a Permalink URL. If you can’t find a permalink there, you need to enter your title first. After the permalink appears, you can edit your slug by clicking theEditbutton. When you’re finished, clickOK.
WordPress Page Slug
Similarly to a post slug, setting up page slug is fairly easy. The permalink URL of the page is also located below the page’s name box. ClickEdit, type your page slug, and clickOK.
Category and Tag Slug
WordPress automatically gives a slug for a new category or tag that you made. Yet, if you prefer to set your own slug manually, you need to create a category first and go back later.
For setting category slugs, you go toPostsand chooseCategories. Find the category you’d like to edit and click theEditbutton. Input your slug into the slug box and clickUpdateto save the change.
Changing tag slugs is similar. Go toPostsand chooseTags. Find the tags you want to edit and click theEditbutton. After you input your tag slug, make click Updateto save the change.
If you have a news website or a website with many contributors, you can also create a slug for each author. Unfortunately, by default WordPress does not allow editing author slug. Therefore, you will needEdit Author Slugplugin. Once plugin is activated go toUsers -> All Users. Pick the user and clickEdit User, scroll down till Edit Author Slugoptions. Type in the desired slug and hit theUpdate Userbutton to save the change.
Tips for Setting WordPress Slugs
Target your SEO keywords
Many SEOs believe you can get better results in search engines if you include keywords you want to rank for in your URLs. Therefore, it is better if you have the keyword in your slug. You can even use your target keyword as your slug.
Keep it simple yet descriptive
Short slugs are more likely to rank in Google and are more user-friendly. Thus, it is better to make your slugs short and on point to your targeted keywords.
No stop words
We recommend cutting out the unnecessary words from your slugs, including stop words such as “a,” “the,” “and,” and other similar words. If you use the Yoast SEO plugin, you will be assisted in cutting out these words from your permalink.
When you change WordPress slug, the whole URL changes. This means that users and search engines will not be able to find the content using old URL. If it happens that you need to change already existing slug, we recommend setting up 301 redirect from old to new slug. You can easily do this with SEO Yoast orRedirectionplugins.
So now you know that WordPress slug is a text that comes after your domain and is a part of your permalink. Optimizing and setting up the slug in every post, page, category, and tag can result in a more friendly website for both humans and search engines. We hope this article helped you to implement the best slug practices.
There might be several reasons on why you stumbled upon this article. Maybe you’re having issues with your WordPress website likeerrorsyou don’t know how to fix, or worse, maybe your site got hacked. Or, you just want a fresh start for your site. Whichever the reason, we got your back! Continue reading to find out how to reinstall WordPress.
There are two major ways to uninstall and reinstall WordPress. You can either reinstall WordPress while keeping all of your existing content or deleting all of your files and install a fresh new copy. We shall be looking at both ways of doing this, and then looking at all the different methods of doing so.
Now, whatever you decide to do, we highly recommend doing abackup of your WordPress filesbefore attempting anything. You can do this by simply copying all of your WordPress files into your computer or a cloud drive. As you never know when something might go wrong, having a failsafe just in case is simply the best practice.
Reinstalling WordPress via Administrative Dashboard
This method both reinstalls and keeps all of your content and is probably the most straightforward. This is done using your WordPress dashboard. If you can’t access the dashboard, don’t fret! You will be able to do this manually using the FTP method which we will cover later on in the article.
In any case, using the dashboard is a real breeze. All you need to do is look at the sidebar, then click onDashboard -> Updatesand tap theRe-install Nowbutton.
The process is fully automatic, all you need to do is wait several seconds and you’re all set.
Reinstalling WordPress using FTP
If pesky errors or whatever else is keeping you fromaccessing your dashboard, you can use the FTP method (or maybe you just simply prefer it). It’s a very similar method to the one mentioned above, the only difference is that using FTP, you will be doing the process manually instead of using a one-click installer.
Here’s a list of the steps to reinstall WordPress:
Download a fresh copy of WordPress.
Extract the ZIP file
Upload all the files except the /wp-content/ folder
Now, let’s figure out how to actually do each step individually.
Start off by going toWordPress.organd downloading the latest version.
Once the download finishes, extract the contents of the ZIP file on your computer and deletethewp-content folder. This step is crucial as otherwise, your content may be overwritten.
When that’s finished, you’ll need toconnect to your account with FTP clientand upload your files to where WordPress is installed. By default, it’s going to be your root folder namedpublicorpublic_html. Whilst doing so a prompt will appear that states that thetarget file already exists. You will need to overwrite the existing files at that point.
What this does exactly is it replaces the core files for WordPress, making it a fresh new copy. And since you deleted thewp-content folder, your content files like themes and plugins won’t be altered.
Reinstalling WordPress using WP-CLI
WordPress can also be reinstalled usingWP-CLI. It is a command line tool that is used to customize the installation of your WordPress. It’s capable of adding/removing users, categories, posts, inserting test data as well as replacing or just simply searching in the database. WP-CLI has more features, but we won’t be covering them here. And just below is a command line which you can freely use to reinstall WordPress without affecting themes and plugins. By the way, WP-CLI is fully installed and supported on allHostinger WordPress hosting plans.
wp core download --skip-content --force
How to completely reinstall WordPress (delete all files)
Before saying any more, please bear in mind the following: using this method, all of your content files will be permanently deleted. Be absolutely sure there’s no content worth saving, as once this is done, you won’t be able to undo it.
You might want to this if you encountered WordPress errors you can’t fix for example. Maybe you just want a clean slate and start everything anew.
With that being out of the way there’s really only two steps involved in the process. First, delete all of your existing WordPress files. Secondly, install a fresh new copy using whichever method you prefer. It’s really that simple. To delete the files use afile manageror connect via FTP and delete the files that way.
Deleting your existing WordPress database is not necessary, even you plan using a new one. However, if you want to completely start over, we don’t blame you! On Hostinger, you can delete the database by navigating to theMySQL Databasessection.
Likewise, you can usephpMyAdminto Drop the database which also wipes out your database completely.
After that’s done, there will be nothing left. Now you can go ahead and start by installing a fresh WordPress copy as if it were a brand new website. Like with reinstalling WordPress itself, there are a few ways of doing this, either automatically or manually depending on your host. If you’re with a host like Hostinger, there’s a prepared 1-click auto installer that installs WordPress in a matter of seconds. Alternatively, you can do this manually which would set you back about 5 minutes. We have covered all ways you caninstall WordPress here. Congratulations, at this point you have an absolutely blank canvas for your website!
Taking all things into account, reinstalling WordPress is a pretty simple process. For a quick recap, here’s how:
By using the in-built WordPress dashboard’sRe-install nowbutton.
By downloading and then uploading the WordPress files, while excluding the wp-content folder into your server.
And if you’re aiming for the clean slate approach, you just need to delete all the WordPress files and (or) the database. Then simply install a new copy with a method of your choosing.
We hope you enjoyed our guide and if you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment down below.

Handling images inWordPresscan be a challenge. If you don’t pay enough to the requirements, you may get a messy website appearance wise or it could even impact the loading time. Therefore, you need to learn about the default WordPress image sizes and how to change them. Relax, grab your coffee, and let’s get this done!
How does WordPress Process Images?
Once you upload an image to your media library, WordPress will automatically generate additional images with 3 default image sizes and store them separately. Therefore, you will see 4 image options when you are uploading an image. These are the thumbnail, medium, large and full-size options. The first three options are called default WordPress images sizes, while the full-size option is the original image size that you upload.
WordPress creates these options because using different locations for placing images will require different image resolution. For example, the image resolution in the thumbnail may be different than the image resolution used in the slider. Therefore, you don’t need to edit and resize your images manually if you want to use the same images in different places with different resolutions. Only one image is needed and WordPress will do the rest.
What are default WordPress images sizes?
By default, WordPress comes with three pre-packaged image sizes. They are:
Thumbnail :(150px square)
Medium size :(maximum 300px width and height);
Large size :(maximum 1024px width and height);
Full size :(full/original image size you uploaded).
How to Change Default WordPress Image Size
Although WordPress already gives you 3 default image sizes if you decide that these choices don’t meet your needs, there are alternatives. Maybe, you need smaller thumbnails or wider featured images. Therefore, you need to change the default WordPress image sizes. To do so, you can follow the steps below:
Go to your Admin Dashboard
Hover your cursor toSetting -> Media
In the Media Settings window, you can adjust the desirable pixels for each size
Hit theSave Changesbutton to save the setting.
How to Add your Custom WordPress Image Size
So, you have the 3 default image sizes. Let’s say you have thumbnail size image for your thumbnail, medium size image for your post’s image, and large size image for your slider. But, you realize that you need more default image sizes for your pop up banner and widgets. Can you add custom WordPress image sizes? Yes, you can.
Step 1. Adding Custom WordPress Image Size by Editing the function.php File
Actually, some themes give you additional image size options. But, if you can’t find them, let’s add our own custom WordPress image size.
You should change ‘your-specified-image-size` with the name that you set in the previous step. For example, you can change it into ‘pop-up-banner size’. After following these steps, you can find pop-up-banner image size options when you upload images to your media library.
You have set a new custom image size in WordPress. But, this change won’t affect your previous images. So, you need to regenerate your previous image sizes.
Luckily, you don’t need to do it one by one manually. There is a plugin namedRegenerate Thumbnailsthat will help you to update your previous image size. Follow the steps below to do this.
Go to your admin dashboard
ClickPlugins -> Add New
TypeRegenerate Thumbnailsin the search bar.
Install and Activate the plugin
Now, go toTools-> Regenerate Thumbnails
Click theRegenerate Thumbnails For X AttachmentsButton
Now, all your earlier uploaded images will be regenerated to new image settings.
WordPress image sizes look like a trivial thing, but in fact, can give you a headache. Sometimes you will find that the image you upload doesn’t fulfill the desired image size that you want. To solve this, you can try two methods. You can change the default WordPress image sizes or add custom image sizes. Before you set up the new image size, remember that uploading big images with a high resolution is not a good idea. Large size images will take up a lot of space and slow down your sites loading time. We hope this article helps you to choose the right images, in the right place, with the right sizes. See you!

For this to work, it needs to feel like fun instead of a chore. If you know your team, you’ll be able to pick the perfect activities for them, and they’ll get back to work with a collective smile and an increased drive to succeed.
Let’s talk about how to pull this off!
How Team-Building Activities Can Help Your Business
On paper, team-building activities should be all about fun. You get to spend the day out of the office, mingle with your coworkers, and learn more about them. However, many companies try to force activities on their employees without any thought as to the things they like, or the blend of personalities.
For example, introverted team members would probably hate to be forced into the spotlight. This means team activities where everyone talks about themselves should be off the menu, but this doesn’t always happen.
This results in people shuddering when they hear management talk about team-building activities, which is not the reaction you want. After all, they have plenty of proven benefits:
Positive experiences can help build loyalty towards the company.
Keeping your colleagues happy is essential ifyou want them to stick around. While simply running a few team-building exercises aren’t going to make everyone consistently happy, itcanbe a good start towards a better overall relationship.
5 Team-Building Activities Your Team Will Actually Enjoy
Every team is different, so you need to make sure you have an idea of what types of activities yours enjoys and what their personalities are. With this in mind, here is a list of activities almost everyone loves, so you can pick and choose which one(s) mesh better with your team.
If you’re not sure what type of activity your team will enjoy, you can’t go wrong with food. You could always order in for your office, but this leaves out the ‘team-building’ part of the equation. Instead, we recommend you organize a potluck.
For the uninitiated, potlucks are events where everyone brings food they’ve prepared themselves (or have bought something and lied about it) to share with everyone else. The idea is your coworkers will enjoy sharing the dishes they love with other people. If you happen to work with some culinary-inclined folks, that’s all the more reason to throw a potluck every now and then.
There’s also another reason why potlucks are a successful team builder – they’re among the least-stressful team-building activities you can engage in. Simply secure a location, provide drinks and music, then have fun.
Let’s go over some simple guidelines to help you pull off a rocking potluck for your office:
Let people bring whatever they want to eat, instead of trying to micromanage everything. This will also include those with specific dietary requirements.
Try to put together a list of what everyone wants to bring, so you can fill in and cover if you think something is missing.
If possible, make an afternoon out of it instead of just pulling everyone out of the office for an hour or two.
Consider providing some activities for people to have fun (think a foosball table or an arcade machine) but don’t force anyone to engage in them.
For extra points, try to schedule your potluck outside if the weather is nice. The atmosphere tends to be much more relaxed, and your team will probably enjoy themselves a bit more.
2. Community Service
Some people view community service as a chore. However, it’s the kind of activity that can help you give something back, and score some good karma points in the process.
As far as team-building goes, few things can bring people closer as much as working together towards a good cause. However, this only works if community service is something you engage in voluntarily.
The difference between voluntary and involuntary community service is the former feels fantastic, whereas the latter is more like a punishment. Given this, the best way to use community service to pull your team together is to let people volunteer for it.
Let’s say, for example, you want everyone in the office to come out and help clean a park together once a month. If you make it mandatory, it’s a surefire way to make your coworkers dread the day coming.
For this type of team-building activity to succeed, you’ll need tooffer incentivesfor those who attend. One excellent approach would be to provide free food and snacks for team members who turned up. If you want to take it a step further, you could even offer increased time off for volunteers.
Ideally, you want to offer enough benefits for people to give community service a try, but not so many that it can breed resentment. After all, the idea is to make your team grow closer, not fight each other!
3. Egg Drop
As far as team-building activities go, egg drops are a long time favorite. The idea is you break everyone off into teams, give them an egg, and task them with building a device that can keep it in one piece after dropping it.
This is an activity better-suited to teams into engineering challenges. However, it can also be a lot of fun in workplaces where nobody knows what they’re doing, since they can come up withsome crazy solutions.
On top of being incredibly fun, egg drops force teams to work together to solve problems, which is something valuable for every office. However, things can often get out of hand if you don’t set some basic guidelines. Here are some approaches that tend to work well:
Break everyone into teams according to their departments instead of pairs, so there’s no one left out.
Make sure you set a reasonable height for the egg drop and keep it the same across the board.
Offer several prizes for situations where there’s more than one team succeeding.
Let people have fun with the game and don’t try to limit their creativity!
Usually, egg drop games tend to work out better for large teams, since you have more participants. If you work in a small office, pitting a handful of coworkers against each other might not be too fun. In those cases, you’ll want to go with a less-structured activity instead!
4. Scavenger Hunt
We’re now beginning to venture into the territory of team activities that require a bit more planning. However, scavenger hunts aren’t all that difficult to set up. Simply put together a list of tasks or items your team members need to find and watch the fun unfold.
In short, scavenger hunts involve every team member pitching in to help find every item on a list. Plus, there’s a significant element of competitiveness since it’s easy to see which teams are pulling ahead faster.
Scavenger hunts are very versatile, design-wise. You can include all sorts of elements in your lists, make them long or short, put together teams of all sizes, and more. However, here are a few tips that tend to work pretty well:
Keep the number of items on the list reasonable, so the game doesn’t drag on for too long and become dull.
Make sure it’s possible to find everything on the list, so it doesn’t turn into an exercise in frustration.
More teams tend to be more fun, but if the office isn’t large enough, stick to two groups instead of multiple pairs.
Find a venue that’s fun for everyone involved, such as a park.
Just as with egg drops, scavenger hunts can get pretty competitive. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, though, as long as you keep things fun and light. Whichever group wins should get a prize, but it’s still good form to provide everyone else with food and drinks so everyone can wind down and talk about the highlights of the game.
5. Board Game Day
If you want to keep things simple, you can always opt to organize a board game get-together for your office. The great thing about board games is there’s something for everyone. Lots of folks love Pictionary while others prefer a good game ofSettlers of Catan. There’s even Monopoly if you want your employees to end up hating each other.
Simply put, pair a few board games with some food and drinks and you have the makings of a great day. Plus, it’s the kind of event you can easily scale as necessary depending on the team size and preferences.
Even though board game days are pretty straightforward, there are always ways to make sure yours goes swimmingly:
Make sure you haveseveral board gamesat hand and ask people to brings theirs if they’re up for it.
Try to put together a collection of different types of games so there’s something for everyone.
Make sure there’s always someone who can explain the rules of each game so newcomers can join in.
Find a venue where people will feel comfortable and relax, (preferably out of the office!).
In our experience, board game days (or nights) are an excellent fit for relaxed bars. However, this might not be the best option if there are team members who don’t drink. For those scenarios, a lounge area can also suffice. Plus, it may even give you the opportunity to set up a console for people to play with as well, if you have one or two particularly fond of video games.
Team-building activities are often erroneously labelled as awkward, but they don’t have to be. The key is to focus on the activities practically everyone loves. If you force employees into unsuitable situations, it probably won’t end well. With this in mind, we recommend you skip the ‘getting-to-know each other’ games altogether, and think a little more outside of the box.
For example, focus on universally fun and friendly games and activities. Potlucks are sure to please nearly everyone, and most people love scavenger hunts or board games too. The secret is to adapt to your team, and let the good times roll!
